www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College competed Saturday on day one of the 2022 CUNYAC outdoor track & field championships with a combined total of 11 medals from Icahn Stadium. In total, York compiled six medals in the men's meet while the women received five. Shevon Walker were recognized with the annual Senior Day ceremony for their dedication to York Athletics.
Hakeem Griffiths spearheaded the day for the Cardinals, accounting for 27 of York's 45 points and claimed the 2022 title in the long jump with a mark of 5.81 meters and ran the 100-meter dash in 12.06 to finish second. He also teamed up with Ryan Lahens, Andrew George and Shevon Walker to finish first in the 4x100 relay in 45.82. George totaled 16 points that included a 54.67 third place finish in the 400-meter dash. Glenver Stuart added six points clocking a 2:15.06 with a nail-biting third place final in the 800-meter dash.
Leading the way for the women, Destiny Scott tallied 32 of York's 48 points and recorded two solo podium finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, improving her third and fifth place marks from the 2019 CUNYAC Championships. She then combined with Shalanie McIntosh, Charlia Webb and Taylor Bellmon to place second in the 4x100 relay (54.28). Scott, McIntosh, Coye and Bellmon placed second in a collective effort to cross the 4x400 relay finish line in 4:42.63. Bellmon generated 21 points placing third in the 400-meter dash 1:09:53 and finishing sixth in the 200-meter dash in 30.95. Coye contributed four points after placing fourth in the 800-meter dash in 2:56.43.
