@yorkcardinals Softball concludes road trip at Hunter

York College returns home Wednesday (Apr. 27) for a CUNYAC Senior Day doubleheader against Brooklyn College


BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball closed out a four-game CUNYAC road trip Monday afternoon, falling 13-0 and 22-0 to the Hunter College Hawks (15-9, 14-0 CUNYAC) from Gil Hodges Field in Brooklyn.

Game 1: Hunter 13, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • Hunter's T'ea Panagak (W, 6-3; 2 IP, 3 SO ) and Alyssa Curia (ND; 3 IP, 6 SO) took the bats out of York's hands by combining for a perfect game in the opener. 
  • The Hawks scored eight runs in the first inning on six hits and one error off York starter Mary Cuevas (L, 0-7; 4 IP, 14 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) to put the game out of reach.  
Game 2: Hunter 22, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • York reached base in all five innings as Nayelly Rojas advanced to first following a fielding error by catcher Olivia Palum in the opening frame. 
  • Hunter took control early and never looked back by registering 12 runs off Cuevas (L, 0-8; H 24, 20 ER, 7 BB) with 10 hits and two costly Cardinal errors. 
  • The Cardinals replied in the second with back-to-back singles by Andrea Wright and Taylor Bellmon (1-for-1, BB) before Sarah Schor (W, 3-3; 5 IP, 4 H, BB, 8 SO) answered with three-straight strikeouts to escape out of the jam. 
  • Kiara Gonzalez reached base in the third inning on a fielding error by Panagak at the first base post. 
  • In the fourth, Bellmon drew a one-out walk, and two batters later, Javenia Jordan singled. 
  • Gonzalez closed out the game with a two-out single in the fifth before being thrown out trying to reach second.
