BELLEROSE, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball returned to action Thursday afternoon with a CUNYAC home doubleheader from Padavan-Preller Fields, falling 27-0 and 20-1 to the Baruch College Bearcats (13-9, 7-1 CUNYAC).

Game 1: Baruch 27, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • Baruch jumped out to a nine-run lead in the opening inning with four hits and two errors made by York.
  • The Bearcats increased their advantage with eight runs on eight hits in the second inning off Cardinal pitcher Mary Cueves (L, 0-2; 26 H, 10 ER, 6 BB, 3 SO) to build a commanding 17-0 cushion.
  • Cuevas (2-for-2) broke York into the hit column in the second with a leadoff single.

  • In the fourth, Cuevas nailed a one-out triple off Baruch pitcher Caroline Gallagher (W, 5-2; 5 H, 0 BB, 8 SO).
  • York rallied in the fifth but were unable to capitalize on singles by Nayelly Rojas and Alma Romero as Gallagher regained her focus to register back-to-back strikeouts to seal the game-one victory.
