BELLEROSE, NYÂ --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball wrapped up a six-game CUNYAC homestand Friday afternoon on Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Day from Padavan-Preller Fields. The Cardinals dropped a 31-4 decision in game one and followed by producing a season-high eight runs in game two's 27-8 loss to the Lehman College Lightning (6-6, 4-4 CUNYAC).
Prior to opening pitch, York held up statement signs to create awareness about child abuse prevention. With April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Cardinals also sported blue ribbons to increase awareness. Â
Game 1: Lehman 31, York 4 (5 Inn.)
- Lehman placed 14-consecutive runners on base to start the game with 12 runs before York recorded its first out.  Â
- Trailing 27-0, York got to reliever Sky Mercado (ND; 4 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) in the third inning, scoring three runs on four hits.Â
- Kiara Gonzalez (2-for-3, 2 RBI, R) looped a two-run single to center to score Bryanna Lora Martinez (1-for-2, 2 R, BB, SB) and Shamonie Miller.
- Four batters later, Taylor Bellmon (2-for-3, RBI) collected her second hit of the game with a RBI single to push home Gonzalez for York's third score of the frame.Â
- Mary Cuevas delivered a pair of singles in a 2-for-3 game at the plate while also pitching five innings (20 H, 17 ER, 11 BB) in relief of Gonzalez (L, 0-2; 0.0 IP, H, 5 ER, 4 BB). Â
- Gonzalez picked up her second hit of the game with a single to drive home Lora Martinez in the fourth to make it a 27-4 game.  Â

- The Cardinals also stranded eight runners and committed six errors. Â
Game 2: Lehman 27, York 8 (5 Inn.)
- In the opening inning, 14 of Lehman's batters stepped to the plate to produce seven hits as three costly Cardinal errors gave way to the Lightning's 11-run inning.Â
- The Lightning, who scored in all five innings, added four more runs on Cuevas (L, 0-4; 5 IP, 20 H, 12 ER, 9 BB) in the second.Â
- York answered with three runs in the home half of the second as Alma Romero (0-for-1, R, RBI, 2 BB) drew a bases loaded walk to plate home Andrea Wright for York's first run.Â
- Javenia Jordan then singled home Nayelly Rojas, and two batters later, Miller drove in Bellmon with an infield single for York's lone hit of the inning off Jessica Perez (W, 1-1; 5 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 7 BB, 6 SO).Â
- The Cardinals capitalized on Lehman's two errors during a sloppy fourth inning. Â
- Perez handed out three free passes and hit one batter as Gonzalez worked a bases loaded walk to score Romero before Cuevas sent a single through the left side to advance Lora Martinez home.Â
- Lehman's defense dropped a would-be fly out on back-to-back plays that allowed York to score its sixth and seventh runs of the game.Â
- In the fifth inning, Miller walked and scored three batters later on a fielding error to settle the scoring for York's season-high eighth run of the game.Â
- Cuevas (2-for-3, RBI, BB) produced her fourth multi-hit game of the year to extend her hitting streak to seven games.  Â
- York worked a season-best seven walks and was hit by the pitch three times to contribute to the offensive output.Â
- The Lighting outplayed York in hits (20-5) while York committed a season-high 10 errors compared to four by Lehman. Â
