Heyliger Jr. nets match-high 11 points to spark @yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball at Lehman

York College returns home Monday (Mar. 28) for a CUNYAC matchup against Brooklyn College


BRONX --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball closed out their season series Saturday afternoon with the Lehman College Lightning  (7-13, 3-8 CUNYAC), dropping a CUNYAC road decision in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-21) inside APEX Arena.

The Cardinals started slow to fall behind by double-figures in the opening sets.  David Heyliger, Jr. ignited the Cardinals by serving five-straight points with two aces as York jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third frame.  Trailing 13-10, Lehman answered with a 12-1 spurt.  York responded with seven of the next eight points to pull within one (22-21) before the Lightning struck with three unanswered points to close out the set.  

Heyliger, Jr. reached double-digit points for the fourth time this season, finishing with a match-high 11 tallies on eight kills and three aces to go along with three digs to pace York.  Jamie Haskell registered a career-high 4.5 points with two aces, two kills and one block assist.  Anthony Nazario, Jr. moved York's offense with nine assists while serving two aces.  Kensley Jean Gilles scooped five digs as Justin Dibra rejected one solo block and a pair of block assists.  

Christian Agudo led Lehman to victory with seven aces and 16 assists.  Andrew Figueroa served six aces and Miguel Gonzalez nailed down seven kills.

York owned the advantage in blocks (3-0) and finished the match attacking at a rate of -.245.  Lehman outplayed the Cardinals in points (40-20), hitting percentage (.176 / -.245), kills (22-10), aces (18-7), assists (18-10) and digs (17-13).
