@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball battles Brooklyn

York College closes out its home slate Tuesday (Mar. 29) on Senior Day with a CUNYAC matchup against City College of New York


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball returned home Monday evening to close out their season series against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (6-13, 3-7 CUNYAC), dropping a CUNYAC decision in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-17) inside York College Gymnasium.  

The Cardinals jumped ahead by scoring first in the opening frames before Brooklyn answered with key runs to take control for set points one and two.  York kept it close in the early going to get as close as two (10-8) in the third stanza.  Brooklyn then created separation with a decisive 8-1 spurt to go up 18-9.  York outscored Brooklyn 9-8 to close out the set but were unable to overcome the early deficit.  

David Heyliger, Jr. paced York with 7.0 points to go along with six kills, one ace and four digs.  Jamie Haskell totaled 1.5 blocks, one ace and a kill while Kensely Jean Gilles nailed down three kills and added a block assist.  Anthony Nazario, Jr. dished out six assists and scooped two digs.  Alex Winter registered three digs as Justin Dibra had two.  

Admir Cekic captained Brooklyn to victory with match-highs of 29 assists and six aces.  Omar Rezika added 10 points (six kills, four aces) while Zhao Ming Li went for a match-leading seven kills.  

York ended the contest with 10 kills and attacked at a rate -.140 while edging the Bulldogs in blocks (2-1).  Brooklyn overtook the Cardinals in points (48-14), kills (35-10), aces (12-2), assists (33-8), digs (17-12) and attacking percentage (.383 to -.140).
