www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball embarked on CUNYAC road trip Thursday evening with a 3-0 setback (25-10, 25-11, 25-18) against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (5-12, 2-6 CUNYAC) inside West Quad Center Gymnasium.
The Cardinals started slow as Brooklyn took a commanding 15-3 lead in the opening set and used a 10-2 run in the second frame to go up 17-6. Trailing 13-4 in the final stanza,
Kensley Jean Gilles sparked York with a pair of aces to lead the charge during a 13-8 spurt to pull within four (21-17). Brooklyn put the match away with a 4-1 run to secure the sweep.
David Heyliger, Jr. anchored the Cardinal offense with four points, knocking down two kills on 23 attempts to go along with seven digs and two blocks. Jean Gilles served a career-high two aces and tallied one kill to produce three points.
Anthony Nazario, Jr. added a team-best four assists.
Jamie Haskell went for one ace and one kill while
Justin Dibra contributed one kill.
Shunghuei Zhu paced Brooklyn to victory with a match-high 8.5 points and four aces. Admir Cekic dished out 25 assists as Omar Rezika registered five kills.
In the end, York recorded five kills on 50 attempts at a season-low clip of -.280. Both teams drew even in blocks (3-3) while Brooklyn edged York in points (45-11), kills (27-5), aces (15-3), attacking percentage (.214 to -.280), assists (27-5) and digs (26-13).
