JAMAICA, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball returned home Monday evening for a CUNYAC tilt, falling 25-6, 25-5, 25-8 to the Baruch College Bearcats (10-9, 8-0 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.
The Cardinals kept it close in the early going, scoring two-straight points to trail by one (3-2). Ryan Oommen then served nine points as part of a 10-0 Bearcat run to grab control of the opening set.
Kensley Jean Gilles hammered a kill from
Anthony Nazario, Jr. to put York on the board in the second stanza followed by a Baruch attacking error that gave the Cardinals their only lead of the match (2-1). Baruch answered with a 6-0 run as part of a 20-2 scoring spree to go up by two sets. The Bearcats scored four points to open the third set and never looked back.
David Heyliger, Jr. paced York with 6.5 points, nailing down five kills on 29 swings to go along with 1.5 blocks and three digs. Nazario Jr. dished out seven assists while
Justin Dibra served York's lone ace of the match.
Jamie Haskell chipped in a pair of block assists.
Oommen served 10 aces and handed out 11 assists to lead Baruch to victory. Haoxin Hu followed with eight kills as Michael Higgins registered four kills and three aces.
In the end, York connected on seven kills out of 44 swings to attack at a rate of -.250. York outplayed Baruch in blocks (3-0). The Bearcats finished the contest leading in points (45-11), kills (27-7), assists (26-7), digs (18-6), aces (18-1) and attacking percentage (.452 to -.250).
