York College closes out a two-game homestand Friday (Feb. 11) with a CUNYAC stint against Hunter College


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.comYork College women's basketball sank a season-high eight three-pointers Wednesday evening as a balanced attack sent the Cardinals to a 55-38 CUNYAC victory over the City College of New York Beavers (0-14, 0-10 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.  The win extended the Cardinals' winning streak to four games versus the Beavers.

How it Happened​​​​​​
  • CCNY jumped ahead early to go up 4-0  just 2:25 in as York started slow, misfiring on three attempts from the field to open play. 
  • York answered with an 8-0 run capped by Mac-Dege Dessources' five-straight points to make it an 8-4 game with 5:28 left in the first quarter. 
  • Leading 12-7 heading into the second period, York used a 9-1 spurt to build a 13-point lead (21-8) at the 7:55 mark. 
  • CCNY outscored York 10-6 in the final 6:52 to trail 27-18 at intermission. 
  • The Beavers got as close as seven (27-20) as Leondra Craig opened the second-half scoring with a layup 1:24 in. 
  • York then went on an 11-0 scoring spree to push the advantage to 18 (38-20) with 3:46 remaining in the third quarter. 
  • Playing ahead for the final 36:15, the Cardinals extended their lead to a game-high 19 points (49-30) with 4:37 showing on the clock as Kristina Sierra and Ellma Hodzic landed back-to-back triples to close out a 10-2 run.

Dessources secured her 37th career double-double (eighth of season) to lead the Cardinals to victory, totaling 14 points (6-of-12 FG), 13 rebounds, four assists and one steal.  Hodzic finished with 14 points (4-of-9 3PT FG), five rebounds and two steals while Sierra followed with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.  Alicia Gumbs added five rebounds and three steals. 

Monae Laing led all scorers with 21 points for CCNY.  Fatoumata Nantoume pitched in 12 points and seven rebounds.  Craig added six rebounds and four assists.

In the end, York shot 34.4 percent (22-of-64) from the field, 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from downtown and 60 percent (3-of-5) from the free-throw line while CCNY connected on 34.1 percent (14-of-41) from the field, 19 percent (4-of-21) from three-point range and 83.3 percent (6-of-13) on free-throws.  The Cardinals won the rebounding battle, 39-32, converting on 20 second-chance points off 17 offensive boards.  York also outplayed CCNY in assists (23-14), steals (9-3), points in the paint (22-18) and scored 20 points off 22 CCNY turnovers.
