JAMAICA, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball closed out a two-game homestand Thursday evening with a convincing 84-80 CUNYAC win over the John Jay College Bloodhounds (7-11, 5-4 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Both teams traded baskets to open the game before the Bloodhounds jumped ahead early with an 8-3 advantage 2:24 in.
- Trailing 14-13, Roki Mendoza Familia scored six-straight points followed by a Mambe Koureissi jumper to cap a 10-0 spurt for a 23-14 York lead with 9:16 remaining in the half.
- Playing ahead for the final 31:54, York used an 11-1 run to extend its lead to a game-high 16 points (39-23) at the 4:04 mark before taking a 48-36 advantage into intermission.
- York went up by as many as 15 points (57-42) in the second half before John Jay clawed its way back into the game with an 11-4 spurt to pull within eight (61-53).
- After a Quran Dublin jumper made it a 68-57 contest with 10:24 left, John Jay used an 8-1 run 2:25 later to pull within striking distance, trailing 69-65.
- The Bloodhounds got as close as three in crunch time to outscore York 10-4 in the final 3:54.
- Following a layup by Dan Kenny with four seconds left to trim York's lead to three, Dublin put the game away with a free throw to settle the 84-80 final.

Dublin contributed 23 points (8-of-19 FG, 3-of-7 3FG), five rebounds and two steals to lead the way for the Cardinals. Koureissi followed with 19 points (7-of-9 FG) and eight rebounds. Mendoza Familia chipped in 17 points (8-of-10 FG), while
Devine Chisholm dropped in 13 points, six assists and one steal.
Angel Rivera led all scorers with 27 points (11-of-18 FG), five rebounds, one block and one steal. Kenny pitched in 17 points (7-of-8 FG), 10 rebounds and one block. Corey Jones Jr. helped with 12 points (4-of-7 FG, 4-of-5 3FG). Frankie Barbato scored 12 points (4-of-7 3FG) in 14 minutes off the bench.
York finished the game shooting 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the field, 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from downtown and 64.5 percent (20-of-31) from the free-throw line while John Jay converted 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the floor, 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from outside and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from the charity stripe. The Cardinals won the rebounding battle, 39-32, while pulling down 16 offensive rebounds to score 14 second-chance points. York also scored 24 points off 20 John Jay turnovers, and outplayed the Bloodhounds in steals (8-5). John Jay held the advantage in assists (22-20) and blocks (2-0).
