NEW YORK --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College closed out the 2021-22 indoor track & field season Sunday with a combined total of 12 medals at the CUNYAC Championships held inside the New Balance Track & Field at The Armory. In total, York compiled seven medals in the men's meet while the women totaled five.
Leading the charge for the Cardinals was
Shevon Walker, who accounted for 28 of York's 64 points. After placing second at the 2020 CUNYAC Championships in the 60-meter dash, Walker followed by crossing the finish line first in 7.11 to claim the 2022 title. Walker then became a two-time champion in the 200-meter dash with a winning time of 23.01. He also combined with
Andrew George,
Hakeem Griffiths and
Ryan Lahens to place second in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:43.45. Griffiths, a two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection, tallied 24 points. He leaped a distance of 12.23 meters to win the triple jump championship, and also placed third in the long jump with an effort of 5.92 meters. Lahens contributed 18 points on the day, finishing third in the 200-meter dash in 23.35, and placing fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.37). George ran the 400-meter dash in 54.04 to finish third.
Destiny Scott stole the show for the Cardinal women, scoring 32 of York's 46 points. Scott medaled in all four of her events with second-place finishes. She ran the 60-meter dash in 8.37 and then finished the 200-meter dash in 28.67. Scott also crossed the 400-meter dash finish line in 1:03.97. In the 4x400 relay, Scott teamed with
Taylor Bellmon,
Jaylene Coye and
Shalanie McIntosh to record a second-place finish in 4:39:54. Bellmon generated 18 points by placing third in the 200-meter dash in 29.17, and took home fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.83.
Charlia Webb registered four points by clocking a 8.69 to place fourth in the 60-meter dash.
