JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball returned to the court for the first time since March 10, 2020, opening the 2022 season with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19) non-conference setback to the Purchase College Panthers (1-1) inside York College Gymnasium.

After falling in the opening sets, York bounced back to win the third set that featured five lead changes and 13 ties.  The Cardinals closed out the match attacking at a rate of .267 in the final set that saw York register seven kills before finishing the evening hitting .066.  York concluded with 33 points, and held the edge in blocks, 6-3.  Both teams drew even in digs (20-20), while Purchase hit .112 and also outplayed York in aces (22-5), assists (30-19) and kills (34-22).

David Heyliger Jr. paced York with 14 points, nailing down 12 kills on 28 swings.  Anthony Nazario Jr. dished out a career-high 14 assists to run the Cardinal offense while Mambe Koureissi produced 11.5 points on seven kills, three aces and a trio of block assists.    

Jeremiah Huntt generated a match-high 19.5 points and 16 kills (match-high) on 26 attempts while serving three aces to lead Purchase to victory.  Joe Higgins followed with 18 points, 10 aces (match-high) and eight kills.  Idris Idris captained the Panthers' offense with 26 assists.

The Cardinals return to action Saturday (Feb. 5) with a non-conference tri-match against the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (0-0) at 12 p.m. followed by the host Bard College Raptors (2-2) at 2 p.m. from Stevenson Athletic Center in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
