@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball competes at John Jay tri-match

York College returns to the court on Feb. 24 for a non-conference matchup at home against Yeshiva University


NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.comYork College men's volleyball traveled Saturday to John Jay College for a non-conference tri-match inside The Doghouse.  The Cardinals opened with a 3-0 (25-0, 25-12, 25-11) setback to the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (8-1) before closing out the day with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) loss to the host Bloodhounds (1-4).

Against Elizabethtown, York attacked at a rate of .273 during a second set that featured five kills on 11 swings before finishing the match at -.036.  The Blue Jays hit .459 and outplayed York in points (34-9), kills (24-7), aces (9-1), assists (18-6) and digs (10-5), while both teams drew even in blocks (1-1).  

David Heyliger, Jr. paced York with four kills and one solo block.  Anthony Nazario Jr. served York's lone ace and dished out five assists to direct the Cardinals' offense.  Kensley Jean Gilles scooped a team-best two digs.  

Dylan Holland nailed down six kills and served two aces to produce a match-high eight points for Elizabethtown. Dan Barckholtz tallied 11 assists, four kills and two aces.  

John Jay 3, York 0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19)
After struggling in the opening sets against John Jay, the Cardinals put together a third stanza that featured a season-best .300 hitting percentage, registering four kills on 10 attacks.  York finished the match hitting a season-high .000 and held the edge in blocks (3-1).  For the match, John Jay hit .121 and owned the advantage in points (52-13), kills (26-8), aces (25-2), assists (25-6) and digs (15-10).  

Mambe Koureissi led the way for York with seven points on five kills, one ace and one solo block.  Heyliger Jr. followed with two kills, 1.5 blocks and a match-leading five digs.  Nazario Jr. handed out six assists and Justin Dibra served one ace.  Defensively, Jean Giles aided the Cardinals with three digs.  

Logan Ramos's 11 kills and five aces ignited John Jay to victory.  Jack Nugent chipped in seven aces and seven kills as Alex Bridgelall distributed 18 assists.
