York College women's basketball returned home Tuesday evening for the first time since taking the court on December 14, falling 69-54 in a CUNYAC matchup against the Baruch College Bearcats (8-7, 6-2 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.
How it Happened
- Both teams traded baskets in the early going before Baruch used a 15-2 run to build a 10-point cushion (18-8) with 3:10 left in the opening period.
- Mac-Dege Dessources scored five of York's next eight points as the Cardinals outscored Baruch 8-2 in the final 2:17 to trail 20-16 at the end of the first quarter.
- Dessources then added eight points to York's 14-2 second-quarter spurt to build a 30-22 advantage with 4:25 remaining in the half.
- Baruch answered with a 12-6 run to close out the final 4:01 as York held a 36-34 edge at the break.
- After Dessources dropped in back-to-back layups to push York ahead by six (42-36) at the 8:13 mark, the Bearcats responded with 12-straight points to go up by six (48-42) 3:40 later.
- Playing ahead for the final 16:49, Baruch put the game away with a decisive 13-2 scoring spree to grab a 63-47 lead with four minutes showing on the fourth-quarter clock.

Dessources paced York with 25 points (12-of-16 FG), 14 rebounds, three blocks and three assists to produce her 34th career double-double (fifth of season). Ellma Hodzic followed with 13 points, three blocks and two steals while Kristina Sierra chipped in 10 points (4-of-6 FG, 2-of-4 3FG), five rebounds, four assists and one block. Aminata Sagna added 11 rebounds, nine steals (career-high) and five assists.
Melina Spahiu poured in a game-high 31 points (11-of-19 FG, 9-of-10 FT) to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists and seven steals to lead Baruch to victory. Mia Castillo went for 20 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and five assists as Milly Ye contributed 11 points and three steals.
York shot 57.1 percent (24-of-42) from the field, 30 percent (3-of-10) from three-point territory and 37.5 percent (3-of-8) from the free-throw line while Baruch hit on 36.3 percent (29-of-80) from the floor, 25 percent (1-of-4) from deep and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the charity stripe. The Cardinals outrebounded Baruch by eight (41-33) and also owned the advantage in blocks (7-0) and points in the paint (34-32). Baruch outplayed York in steals (26-11) and assists (18-17) while scoring 40 points off 45 Cardinal turnovers.
