www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball opened CUNYAC play Friday night on the road with a convincing 81-58 win against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (2-5, 0-1 CUNYAC) inside Cougars Cave. The Cardinals claimed victory for the third game in a row over Medgar Evers after sweeping the 2021-22 season series.
How it Happened
- Medgar Evers got out to an early 10-4 advantage at 14:21.
- York responded with a 14-2 run, taking an 18-12 lead with 8:41 remaining in the half.
- The difference remained six points at halftime, as Jacob Green's jumper for Medgar Evers with 30 seconds showing on the clock made it 30-24 York.
- The Cardinals connected on nine of its first 16 shots from the field to build a 12 point cushion (53-41) with 9:08 left to play.
- On the strength of 3-pointers and layups, York extended their lead to 24 (67-43) at 6:33.
- The Cardinals went up by a game-high 28 points (75-47) after Terrell Fullerton canned a trey with 3:33 showing on the second-half clock.
- York shot 19-of-30 from the floor to outscore Medgar Evers by 17 (51-34) in the final 20 minutes.
Building on the first half lead, head coach Jamel Gist remarked, "Defense sparked the 2nd half run. Our group stayed together through the highs and lows through the first half and wanted to keep their foot on the gas pedal the entire 2nd half."

Fullerton scored a game-high 17 points (7-of-15 FG) to go along with nine rebounds, eight assists (two turnovers), two steals, and a block to pace York in scoring for the eighth-consecutive game.
Matthew Trepeta launched 4-of-8 from 3-point territory to finish with 16 points to go along with three assists and two steals.
Devine Chisholm compiled 12 points (3-of-6 3PT), seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
William Brown tallied 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block.
Olawale Kila grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds and added nine points to the win.
Matthew Smiley chipped in nine points (4-of-7 FG).
Green sparked Medgar Evers with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Dante Simmons followed with 11 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Mousa Sinera added nine points, nine rebounds, and three steals.
In the end, York shot 43.8 percent (32-of-73) from the field, 38.5 percent (19-of-26) from 3-point range, and 58.4 percent (7-of-12) from the free-throw line. The Cougars were limited to 31.1 percent (23-of-74) from the floor, 23.3 percent (7-of-30) from long distance, and connected on 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from the charity stripe.
York put together season-best efforts with 81 points, 50 rebounds, and 20 assists. The Cardinals won the battle of the boards, 50-43, scoring 11 second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds. York also outplayed the Cougars in assists (20-14) and steals (10-6) while converting 20 Medgar Evers miscues into 19 points.
