York played more to their potential in the third stanza. In a set that featured eight ties and four lead changes, the Cardinals had leads of 10-9 and 13-12 and faced a 20-17 deficit. The frame included service aces by Cherub Autar and Shamonie Miller and a stretch where York went on a 7-1 craze, turning a 9-5 deficit into a 12-10 advantage.
"Tonight's match was not the outcome we were hoping for but the third set our team finally decided to have more fun and be in the moment."-said head coach Christy Herring
Miller and Andrea Wright paced York with three points each. Miller added two kills to go along with her ace, and Wright recorded an ace, kill, and a blocked shot. Autar and
Nadaysia Nivar were not far behind, each totaling two points. Autar led the Cardinals with two aces, and Nivar equaled Miller's high of two aces. Defensively, Miller had a team-best 11 digs, while Naomi Heras Picon added nine.
Leading Yeshiva was Emily Zrihen, who produced a game-high eight kills and four aces. Shany Elmaleh backed up Zrihen's effort with seven kills of her own. Yeshiva controlled the leaderboard in kills (23-5), aces (16-4), assists (21-5), and digs (45-28).
Reflecting upon the season, coach Herring gave her thoughts:
"Our most improved is a tie between Nadaysia and Andrea. Both middles learned and grew both offensively and defensively. Being key contributors to our team growth. Team MVP is absolutely our Team Captain and Leader Shamonie Miller! She has carried this team on her back with her positive energy and selflessness."
The Cardinals graduate just one senior in Jamelia Jordan and will turn the page to continue to build towards 2023 and beyond under the first-year head coach.
