@yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball elevates play in CUNYAC regular-season finale at Medgar Evers

York College returns to the court next Thursday (Nov. 3) in the season finale against Yeshiva University

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball bounced back to win the second set before dropping the third and fourth stanzas in a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-12, 25-17) road loss to the Medgar Evers College Cougars (2-18, 1-6 CUNYAC) on Tuesday evening in their CUNYAC regular-season finale from Cougars Cave.

With York leading 8-3 in the first set via aces by Shamonie Miller, Medgar Evers took seven straight points. With the Cougars up 10-8, the rest of the period was filled with ties and lead changes. Leading 19-18, Medgar Evers won six of the final seven points to seal the deal.

York followed up their strong first-set display with a second-stanza triumph. After a close battle throughout, it appeared the Cougars would snatch victory from the Cardinals' hands after they turned a 17-14 deficit into a 19-17 advantage. York held firm, though, as kills by Cherub Autuar, Shamonie Miller, and Andrea Wright sparked an 8-2 spurt to close out the set.

The third set remained competitive early, as Medgar Evers took a slender 9-8 lead. However, the Cougars followed with a 16-4 run to win the period. The final frame remained close for longer, as consecutive kills by Andrea Wright made the score 14-13. Putting the game away, Medgar Evers put together a 10-2 to push their advantage to nine.

Miller posted a match-leading 13 points, registering nine kills on 33 swings in addition to four aces to pace York. Defensively, Miller scooped a career-high 22 digs. Wright nailed down a personal-best seven kills as Autar's career-high 15 assists directed the Cardinals' offense. Autar also contributed a career-high three aces to York's season-best effort of 10 in the match. Nivar Nadaysia added four kills, six digs, one ace, and a block. Naomi Heras Picon chipped in one ace, one kill, and four digs.

Leading Medgar Evers was Cristina Carnegie, who produced 10 points on seven aces and three kills to go with seven assists and nine digs. Quiara Brye Bey served five of the Cougars' 14 aces as Cristal Joseph posted 11 digs and six kills. Britonya Lloyd contributed eight kills and nine digs to the Medgar Evers' victory.

York held the advantage in assists (18-16) as both teams drew even in blocks (1-1). Medgar Evers owned the edge in points (39-33), kills (24-22), aces (14-10), and digs (45-38) while attacking at a .023 rate versus -.032 for York. York combined to manufacture season highs in points (33), kills, aces, assists, total attacks (94), attacking percentage, and digs.

The Cardinals (0-17) return to the court next Thursday (Nov. 3) in their season finale against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (1-12) at 8 p.m. from Baruch College's ARC Arena.
