@yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer collides with Baruch

York College takes on CCNY in a CUNYAC encounter on Saturday (Oct. 22) for Senior Day

NEW ROCHELLE, NY-- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer fell 8-1 to the Baruch College Bearcats (8-5-0, 6-0-0 CUNYAC) Wednesday evening in a CUNYAC road affair from Flowers City Park.

Baruch flew out of the gates as midfielder Jemali Zarnadze slotted one home for his seventh goal of the season in the fourth minute. Zarnadze completed his hat trick just after the 20th minute, as his strikes at 21:21 and 22:22 gave the Bearcats a 3-0 advantage. Adding on, forward Daniel Fomenko completed his hat trick in under ten first-half minutes. His first strike came in the 31st minute, his second finish came at 38:30, and he scored his final goal in the 41st minute.

A stalemate for much of the second frame, goals flew in during the last ten minutes. Bearcats' midfielder Kosi Mbadiwe grabbed his first career goal in the 81st minute. York forward Emre Sahin netted his third of the campaign at 86:12. Armani Celebi got in on the action less than two minutes later, scoring his fifth of the campaign via a pass from Taner Ceylan to seal Baruch's win.

In addition to his goal, Sahin led the Cardinals with five shots, increasing his tally to 16 shots and six on target in the last four matches. Goalkeeper Ricardo Dorcil (1-3-0) also continued his fine form with six saves, upping his total to 23 saves in the last four contests. 

Baruch maintained an advantage in shots (22-7), shots on target (14-2), and corners (6-3). 

The Cardinals (2-7-0, 1-5-0 CUNYAC) compete against the City College of New York Beavers (2-6-1, 2-3-0 CUNYAC) on Senior Day for a CUNYAC home encounter on Saturday (Oct. 22) at at 3 PM from Kingsborough Community College Field in Brooklyn.
