Tale of two halves lifts @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball past CCNY, 77-71

The Cardinals remain on the road Wednesday (Jan. 19) for a CUNYAC matchup against Hunter College

York College men's basketball fell behind early Friday evening and used a strong second half to produce a 77-71 CUNYAC road win against the City College of New York Beavers (5-7, 1-2 CUNYAC).  Winners of three-straight against the Beavers, York will have a chance to sweep CCNY on February 9 inside York College Gymnasium.  



How it Happened​​​​​​
  • The Cardinals opened the game hitting just 4-of-14 but kept it close, trailing 10-9 just 4:54 in. 
  • Yassine Sakhi dropped in a layup at the 14:36 mark to spark a 20-3 run to extend CCNY's lead to a game-high 19 points (32-13) with 8:09 remaining in the stanza. 
  • York answered with a 9-2 spurt to pull within 12 points (34-22) before CCNY outscored the Cardinals by five (7-2) to close out the final 2:17 to take a 41-24 advantage into halftime. 
  • After shooting 28.5 percent in the first half, York caught fire in the final 20 minutes to hit on 50 from the field. 
  • The Cardinals erased a 17-point halftime deficit to grab their first lead of the game by using a 28-9 run to go up by 59-58 with 7:54 remaining. 
  • Mambe Koureissi scored 11 points during the stretch to ignite the Cardinals. 
  • York played ahead for the for the remainder of the game and went up by as many as seven points. 
Inside the Box Score
Devine Chisholm poured in a game-high 18 points (5-5 FT) and added seven rebounds and five assists to his statline.   Donald Hartley Jr. followed with 17 points (3-of-6 3FG) and two steals while Quran Dublin went for 16 points, six steals, five assists and five rebounds. Kouresissi contributed to the Cardinals victory with 15 points (5-of-8 FG) and nine rebounds, while playing 30 minutes off the bench.  Roki Mendoza Familia grabbed nine rebounds and hauled in five offensive rebounds. 
 
Dashaun Galloway led the Beavers in scoring and assists with 15 points (6-of-10 FG, 3-3 3PTFG) and 10 dimes. Sakhi followed with 14 points and three steals. Elijah Patterson chipped in with 10 points (5-of-5 FG) off the bench.
 
York finished the game shooting 39.1 percent from the field (27-of-69), 31.3 percent from three-point range (5-of-16) and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line (18-of-23) as CCNY made 46.9 percent of their shots from the floor (30-of-64), 47.4 percent from deep (9-of-19) and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe (2-of-3).  The Cardinals beat the Beavers on the boards, 43-40, scoring 22 second-chance points off 17 offensive rebounds. York also edged CCNY in points off turnovers (22-17), points in the paint (40-30), and bench points (18-16). The Beavers led the game in rejections (3-0).
