Following a handball call on the Cardinal defense, Mount Saint Vincent slipped a penalty kick past Cardinal goalie
Ahmed Elgendy (0-2-1) as Carlos Romero broke the scoring ice in the 26th minute for the initial goal. The Cardinals answered at the 40:30 mark with the equalizer when
Marvin Mondesir's corner kick connected with
Kervin Mondesir, who buried a header in the back of the net to send a 1-1 game into the break.
Tyrone Malango beat Algendy for the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute to settle the 2-1 final with a tap-in score assisted by Romero and Fernando Guzman.
Elgendy made five stops in between the sticks for York while Joel Luna (3-0-1) stopped four shots to earn Mount Saint Vincent's win.
CMSV finished with the edge in shots (29-13) while also holding a small advantage over York in shots on goal (7-6) and corner kicks (8-7).
Marvin Mondesir put up a team-leading five shots (three on goal) and
Kervin Mondesir followed with three (two on goal).
The Cardinals (0-2-1) return to the pitch next Saturday (Sept. 25) for a non-conference matchup against the Medgar Evers College Cougars. Game time and location will be announced in the coming days.
