www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer closed out their CUNYAC slate on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 setback to the Baruch College Bearcats (6-6-0, 5-2-0 CUNYAC) on Senior Day from Aviator Field. Prior to kickoff, seniors
Wayne Dawkins (2021),
Adedayo Epemolu (2018-21) and
Kirk Gardner (2018-21) were recognized with the annual senior day ceremony for their dedication to York Athletics.
The Bearcats jumped out to an early lead at the 6:33 mark with a goal by Wessam Farag off a pass from Jaedon Seneca to beat the Cardinal defense to break the scoring ice. York's best scoring opportunity came in the eighth minute as
Kervin Mondesir's pass to Steven Zang narrowly missed the goal for the equalizer. Baruch later doubled its advantage with seven seconds left in the half as Jemali Zarnadze finished a feed from Ansen Novak to send a 2-0 game into the break.
York conceded a pair of second-half goals by Zarnadze in the 67th and 71st minutes to settle the 4-0 final.
Cardinal netminder
Ahmed Elgendy (1-7-1) stopped 11 shots while facing 34 attempts to post his sixth game with 10 or more saves. Kellen Sela (5-2-0) combined with Walter Hernandez for the clean sheet to preserve the Bearcats' win.
Baruch finished with the edge in shots (34-5), shots on goal (15-0) and corner kicks (8-3).
The Cardinals (1-9-1, 1-6-0 CUNYAC) return to the pitch on Monday (Oct. 25) for a non-conference tilt against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (1-11-0, 1-5-0 CUNYAC) at 3 p.m. from Kingsborough Community College Field in Brooklyn.
