www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball opened the 2021 campaign Saturday afternoon by taking the court for the first time since the conclusion of the 2019 season. The Cardinals squared-off against the Purchase College Panthers (1-7), falling in straight sets (25-14 , 25-6, 25–10) in a non-conference tilt inside Purchase College Gymnasium.
Chayana Jimenez paced York with four points and four kills while
Kiara Gonzalez followed with three kills.
Nadaysia Nivar and
Franceska Cabral each served an ace for York.
Kylana Laspina added a team-best six digs.
Pamella Gonzalez posted a match-high 21 points on 13 aces and eight kills to lead Purchase to victory.
York held the edge in blocks (1-0) as Nivar tallied the lone rejection of the match. Purchase finished with the advantage in attacking (.326 to -.083), kills (23-7), aces (26-2), assists (21-6) and digs (19-15).
The Cardinals (0-1) are scheduled to host the Baruch College Bearcats (3-11)on Tuesday (Oct.5) for a CUNYAC-opening showdown at 6 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium. At present time, spectators are not permitted at home games. Please visit
