www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer scored first but were unable to hold an early lead Saturday evening on the CCNY Beavers (2-2-0, 2-0-0 CUNYAC) en route to dropping a 4-2 CUNYAC road decision from Randall's Island.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early advantage at the 14:16 mark when
Marvin Mondesir finished a feed from
Shemar Green to break the scoring ice for a 1-0 lead on CCNY goalie Roger Saquipay (2-2-0). CCNY replied with a goal by Andrey Goryuk on a penalty kick to register the equalizer in the 31st minute to send a tied match into the break.
The final stanza featured four goals as Nicholas Karkut scored the go-ahead tally in the 46th minute before delivering the game-winning score in the 61st minute to give CCNY a 3-1 advantage. After going down 3-1 on a goal by Abdou Diaman in the 67th minute, York answered in the 89th minute with an
Emmanuel Franco laser for the free kick score to settle the 4-1 final.
Cardinal netminder
Ahmed Elgendy (1-3-1) grabbed 11 saves and faced 28 shots while Saquipay stopped one of five shots to earn CCNY's win.
CCNY owned the advantage in shots (28-5), shots on goal (15-3) and corner kicks (7-0).
The Cardinals (1-3-1, 1-1-0 CUNYAC) return to the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 6) for a CUNYAC showdown against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (1-7-0, 0-2-0 CUNYAC) at 3 p.m. from College Point Field. At present time, spectators are not permitted at College Point Field. Visit
