www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer fell behind early Tuesday afternoon as the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (1-11-0, 1-2 CUNYAC) earned a 4-0 win over the Cardinals in their CUNYAC finale from Brooklyn College Field.
Brooklyn grabbed the lead in the 20th minute with a goal by Rachel Gomez that took an unlucky bounce past Cardinal netminder
Stephanie Gutierrez (0-4-0). Moments later Gomez doubled Brooklyn's advantage at the 25:56 mark with her second goal of the game on a long range shot from outside the box. The Bulldogs added to their lead with a goal by Flor Ramos in the 40th minute to send a 3-0 contest into intermission.
After registering four shots (two on goal) in the opening half, York dialed it up by launching eight at Bulldog goalie Angelina Vasta (1-10-0) in the final 45 minutes.
Taylor Bellmon charged through the box in the 49th minute on an attempt that went wide for York's first shot in the second half. York created a few opportunities but were unable to break through as the Cardinal defense conceded an own goal in the 83rd minute to settle the 4-0 final.
Gutierrez turned away a season-high 17 shots while facing 31 attempts in between the pipes for York. Angelina Vasta (1-10-0) made five stops to preserve Brooklyn's win.
Emelin Cajamarca took a team-best four shots (two on net) to pace York on offense. Brooklyn finished with the advantage in shots (31-12), shots on goal (21-5) and corner kicks (5-2).
The Cardinals (0-6-0, 0-4-0 CUNYAC) close out the 2021 season on November 2 when they return to the pitch for a non-conference Senior Day showdown against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (0-8) at 7 p.m. from Aviator Field in Brooklyn.
