York College returns home on Saturday (Oct. 23) for a CUNYAC matchup against the Baruch College Bearcats

BROOKLYN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer scored three goals but were not enough to push past the Medgar Evers College Cougars (1-9-0, 1-4-0 CUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-3 in a CUNYAC road matchup from Kingsborough Community College Field.

Steve Zang broke the scoring ice at the 7:21 mark to give York the early lead.  Moments later, Medgar Evers answered with the equalizer on a goal by Salim Soumare in the 11th minute.  The Cougars took the lead in the 22nd minute with a Jackson Availa score to make it a 2-1 game on York goalie Ahmed Elgendy (1-6-1).   Later in the half, Medgar Evers doubled its advantage at 40:22 with a Carvel Provost tally before Soumare netted the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute to send a 4-1 game into intermission.

After conceding four-unanswered goals, York converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute with Kervin Mondesir's conference-leading ninth goal of the season.  Abdul Bassa settled the scoring in the 76th minute by finishing a feed from Mondesir and Antonio Josephs to make it a one-goal game for the Cardinals.  Kirk Gardner's attempt sailed wide in the 89th minute for York's lone shot after scoring its third goal on Cougar goalie Carl-Henry Obeissant (1-5-0).

With a trio of Cardinals finding the back of the net, York matched a season-high with three goals scored.  York also owned the advantage in shots (18-16), shots on goal (9-7) and corner kicks (2-1).

In between the pipes, Elgendy turned away three saves while Obeissant made six saves to earn the Cougars' win.

The Cardinals (1-8-1, 1-5-0 CUNYAC) return home on Saturday (Oct.23) for a CUNYAC matchup against the Baruch College Bearcats (5-6-0, 4-2-0 CUNYAC) at 1:15 p.m. from Aviator Field in Brooklyn.  At present time, spectators are not permitted at Aviator Field.  Visit yorkathletics.com/fans to view the Fall Spectator Policy.
