www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer scored early Wednesday against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-10-0, 2-3-0 CUNYAC) before letting a CUNYAC decision slip away with a 2-1 final in overtime from College Point Field.
The Cardinals jumped ahead at the 13:24 mark as
Wesly Antunez finished a run from
Kervin Mondesir to beat Bulldog goalie Utku Tanritanir (1-5-0) for the 1-0 lead. Brooklyn answered in the 27th minute with the equalizer from Randy Urgiles, slipping one past Cardinal netminder
Ahmed Elgendy (1-5-1) to make it a 1-1 contest.
Both teams were unable to score the go-ahead goal in regulation as the match moved to overtime. In the extra frame, Arturo Zaraza gathered a loose ball in the box to bury the game-winning goal into the back of the net to claim victory for Brooklyn with 12 seconds left.
Elgendy logged 15 saves for the Cardinals while Tanritanir turned away two shots to earn Brooklyn's win.
Brooklyn finished with the advantage in shots on goal (19-3), shots (36-9), and corner kicks (16-4).
The Cardinals (1-7-1, 1-4-0 CUNYAC) are back in action on Saturday (Oct. 16) for a CUNYAC matchup against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-9-0, 0-4-0 CUNYAC) at 1 p.m. from Kingsborough Community College Field in Brooklyn.
