JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball scored more than half of their points in the paint and outrebounded the John Jay College Bloodhounds (12-10, 9-2 CUNYAC) on Military Appreciation Night, but the Cardinals were unable to come away with the CUNYAC home win Friday evening, falling 79-52 inside York College Gymnasium.

Veterans representing the York College and The Wounded Warriors Project, as well as CUNY Reserve Officers' Training Corp (ROTC) were celebrated in addition to a presentation of the colors by the CUNY ROTC prior to the opening tip.  York Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a halftime push-up contest that featured participation from the ROTC and youth members of the South Jamaica Advance Sports & Recreation.

John Jay jumped in front with a 3-pointer by All'aha Albright before a Dayana Jacome jumper put the Cardinals on the scoreboard 40 seconds in.  York would then take its lone lead of the game at the 7:04 mark in the opening stanza as Mac-Dege Dessources dropped in two of her nine first-half points for a 4-3 advantage.  Albright answered with back-to-back triples to ignite John Jay's 8-0 run. Trailing 12-6, York scored five-straight points to pull within one (12-11) with 38 seconds left in the first quarter.  The Cardinals fell behind by as many as eight in the second quarter and made a push to pull within two (24-22) with 4:06 remaining in the half. York stayed in the game by shooting 50 percent from the field in the second quarter as John Jay held a 30-25 lead at the break.

The Bloodhounds raced out to a 19-point lead (46-27) with a 16-2 spurt to start the third period.  With John Jay leading by 23 at the end of three quarters of play, the Bloodhounds stretched their margin to a game-high 29 points in the closing minutes.

Keyla Cabrera paced York with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting.  Dessources went for nine points, 11 rebounds and one block while Diamond Jackson registered nine points and 10 boards off the bench.  Destiny Drummond recorded career highs of seven assists and two blocks as Ellma Hodzic swatted three shots.

Albright finished with 27 points (5-of-12 3FG) to lead all scorers.  Katie Healy netted 15 points while Nyasha Howard followed with 14 points, 11 assists, 11 rebounds and seven steals to post a triple-double.  Lily Rakitzis' 10 points rounded out John Jay's double-digit scorers.

York shot 37.3 percent from the field (22-of-59), 0-of-5 from 3-point land and 38.1 percent from the free-throw line (8-of-21) as John Jay sank 34.2 percent from the floor (27-of-79), 26.1 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-23) and 63.3 percent from the charity stripe (19-of-30).  The Cardinals held a +7 rebounding edge (54-47) and John Jay scored 12 second-chance points off 20 offensive boards.
