www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball opened their home schedule Wednesday evening with a win for the second-straight season, earning a 3-set sweep (25-21, 25-21, 25-13) over the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (0-7) inside York College Gymnasium.
The Cardinals totaled a match-high 14 kills on 30 swings in the opening set that saw
David Heyliger, Jr. ignite York with five kills. After falling behind 5-3 in the second set,
Mambe Koureissi served a pair of aces as part of a 6-0 Cardinal run to take the lead for good. York attacked at a rate of .318 in the third set to put the match away and finished the evening hitting .211. York also dominated Sarah Lawrence in points (47-20), kills (34-13), aces (9-5), blocks (4-2), assists (30-11) and digs (30-22).
Koureissi led York with a match-best 15.5 points on nine kills, four aces and 2.5 blocks.
Akil Vaughn went for 13 points and nailed down a match-leading 11 kills as Heyliger, Jr. tallied a career-high 12 points, eight kills, four aces and paced the Cardinal defense with eight digs.
Juan Rodriguez directed the Cardinal offense with 26 assists.
Felix Massey sparked Sarah Lawrence with five kills and two aces while Lance De Leoz added five points and served three aces.
The Cardinals (1-1) return to action Saturday with a non-conference tri-match in Langhorne, Pennsylvania starting at 2 p.m. against the King's College Lions (5-0) followed by the host Cairn University Highlanders (0-6 ) at 4 p.m. inside Cairn Gymnasium.
