Duo carries @yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball to marathon victory at Yeshiva

York College remains on the road next Tuesday (Mar. 3) to take the court for a CUNYAC showdown at Brooklyn College


MANHATTAN --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball prevailed in five sets (25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-11) to defeat the Yeshiva University Maccabees (2-5) on the road Wednesday evening in non-conference action inside Max Stern Athletic Center.  The five-set win is York's first since March 23, 2018, when the Cardinals defeated Pine Manor College, 25-20, 29-27, 22-25, 20-25, 15-12.

David Heyliger, Jr. amassed a career-high 28 points and 21 kills to go with four blocks, three aces and eight digs in leading York to victory.  Akil Vaughn followed with a career-high 21.5 points and 19 kills in addition to contributing 1.5 blocks, one ace and nine digs to the win.  John Vitor captained the Cardinals on offense with a career-high 29 assists and two aces.  Anthony Nazario, Jr. also served two aces while Justin Saji followed with one.

York opened the contest by attacking at a rate of .235 before tapering off to finish the match hitting .095 compared to Yeshiva's -.046.  The Cardinals also owned the advantage in points (59-44), kills (43-28), blocks (7-3) and assists (40-26) while Yeshiva outplayed York in aces (13-9) and digs (44-40). York won the opening set before the Maccabees jumped ahead with back-to-back set wins.  Faced with a 2-1 hole, York rallied over the next two-sets to hit .067 followed by .222 to pull off the comeback.  The team-wide effort saw York set season highs in points (59), kills (43), assists (40), aces (9), blocks (7) and digs (40). 

Ajami Yosef (10 points, six kills) and Benjamin Goldstein each served four aces to pace Yeshiva.  Goldstein also dished out 23 assists while Sibi Selvarajah scooped 22 digs.

The Cardinals (3-6, 0-2 CUNYAC) remain on the road next Tuesday (Mar. 3) to take the court for a CUNYAC showdown with the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (5-8, 0-0 CUNYAC) starting at 7 p.m. inside West Quad Gymnasium.
