York College is on the road Tuesday (Feb. 4) for a matchup with College of Staten Island


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball snapped a five-game skid Friday evening with a timely 66-62 CUNYAC home win over the Lehman College Lightning (11-9, 6-4 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium to split the season series.

In a first half that featured seven ties and eight lead changes, Lehman erased a three point deficit with a 7-0 run to go up 14-9 with 13:46 left.  Devine Chisholm then scored four points in a span of 1:50 as part of York's 6-0 spurt to grab a 15-14 advantage. After Lehman went back up by five (24-19), Donald Hartley, Jr. sank a jumper at the 6:29 mark to start to a 13-6 Cardinal run to lead 32-30 at the break.   

With the game knotted at 39 with 15:14 showing on the second-half clock, Jaye Bookhart converted a four-point play to ignite an 8-0 Cardinal run to make it a game-high eight-point lead (47-39).  Lehman then scored 13 of the game's next-17 points during a stretch of 6:30 to pull in front, 54-53. Trailing by one (56-55), York outscored Lehman by five (11-6) over the final 2:35 by sinking all seven attempts from the free-throw line to secure the win.  

Mambe Koureissi used game highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks to register his team-leading eighth double-double of the season.  Akil Vaughn posted his fourth double-double of the season with a statline of 13 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and four steals (tied career-high). Bookhart and Chisholm both scored 12 points while Hartley, Jr. added eight points and a game-high six assists to the win.  

Isaiah Geathers tallied 16 points and four steals to pace Lehman.  Gian Batista netted 14 points as Tommy Batista and Ocean Scott followed with 12 and 10 points, respectively.  

York connected on 37.3 percent from the field (22-of-59), 12.5 from 3-point range (2-of-16) and 74.1 percent from the free-throw line (20-of-27) while Lehman shot 35.8 percent from the floor (24-of-67), 23.8 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-21) and 69.2 percent from the charity stripe (9-of-13).  The Cardinals owned a +11 rebounding edge (49-38), scoring 13 second-chance points off 15 offensive boards. York also held the edge in assists (16-10), steals (9-8) and blocks (7-5). Both teams combined for 16 lead changes and 14 ties.  

The Cardinals (7-13, 3-7 CUNYAC) hit the road Tuesday (Feb. 4) for a trip to Staten Island close out a season series with the College of Staten Island Dolphins (6-13) starting at 7:30 p.m. inside CSI Sports & Recreation Center.
