Chisholm’s double-digit effort highlights @yorkcardinals Men’s Basketball at Staten Island

York College returns home Friday (Feb.7) for a Military Appreciation Night matchup against CUNYAC foe John Jay College


STATEN ISLAND --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball split the season series with the College of Staten Island Dolphins (8-14) Tuesday evening after falling 82-49 on the road inside CSI Sports & Recreation Center. 

The Cardinals took an early advantage as Devine Chisholm and Akil Vaughn converted back-to-back field goals 1:33 in to give York it's largest lead (4-0).  Moments later, Vaughn dropped in a layup to make it an 8-6 game before Staten Island over with a 13-4 run to play ahead for the final 34:01. Keeping it close, Olawele Kila scored four-straight points to cut York's deficit to three (19-16) at the 8:24 mark.  Following a dunk from Vaughn that pulled York within four (29-25) with 5:06 left, Staten Island took a 15-point lead into intermission with a 13-2 spurt over the final 4:24 for a 42-27 advantage. The Dolphins created separation by scoring 24 points off 20 Cardinal first-half turnovers.  

York started strong in the second-half start, stringing together an 8-2 run to chop Staten Island's lead to nine (44-35) at the 18:07 mark.  Staten Island responded with a 36-10 run to build a game-high 35 point lead (80-45) with 3:30 showing on the second-half clock.  

Chisholm finished with a team-leading 13 points (4-of-8 FG, 4-of-5 FT) and three steals for York.  Vaughn added nine rebounds and two blocks as Jaye Bookhart scored eight points.  

Andrew Kartalis scored a game-high 21 points (3-of-5 3FG) and added five steals to his statline in leading Staten Island to victory.  Adeola Latunji totaled 13 points while Krystian Kopec had 11 and Joseph Zieris went for 10.  

York connected on 39.1 percent from the field (18-of-46), 10 percent from 3-point territory (1-of-10) and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line (12-of-21) as Staten Island landed 43.5 percent from the floor (30-of-69), 42.9 percent from deep (12-of-28) and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (10-of-21).  The Cardinals held a +6 rebounding edge (39-33), scoring 10 second-chance points off 11 offensive boards. Staten Island owned the advantage in assists (14-4), blocks (5-3), steals (17-8), points off turnovers (40-9) and bench scoring (41-13), 

The Cardinals (7-14, 3-7 CUNYAC) return home Friday (Feb. 7) to close out their season series with the John Jay College Bulldogs (16-5, 9-1 CUNYAC) starting at 7:30 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night inside York College Gymnasium.
