THROGGS NECK, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer ran into an undefeated Maritime College Privateers (3-0) team Wednesday night in a 2-0 non-conference road loss from Reinhart Field.
The Cardinals broke into the shot column first with two of their four first-half attempts going wide in the early goings by
Kymarlie Gayle and
Marvin Mondesir. Maritime answered with five shots before Christoph Tavernese put the Privateers in front for good with the game-winning goal in the 27th minute.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, Nicholas Gino cemented the 2-0 final by finishing a double assist from Tavernese and Thomas Kropp to beat Cardinal goalie
Jasper McLeod (0-2-0). The Privateer defense limited York to just three second-half shots.
McLeod stopped six shots while his counterpart, Michael Rodriguez made three saves to secure the shutout.
Mondesir took a game-high four shots while the Privateers outplayed York in shots (19-7), shots on goal (8-3) and corner kicks (9-3).
York (0-2-0) remains on the road Saturday (Sept. 7) for a neutral site matchup against the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (0-3) from SJC Outdoor Complex in Patchogue, New York.
