www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer opened CUNYAC play Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 setback on the road to the Lehman College Lightning (7-2-0, 2-0-0 CUNYAC) from South Field in the Bronx.
The Cardinals applied pressure in the fifth minute with a shot on goal by
Hans Merilan and a corner kick 16 seconds later by
Marvin Mondesir. Unable to break through, both teams played a scoreless first half while Lehman controlled a 9-3 edge in shots.
The Lighting struck in the 66th minute with a feed by Mubarak Ouro to Ebenezer Otoo for a low shot past Cardinal goalie
Jasper McLeod (1-7-0) for the game-winning goal. Otoo later reached the back of the net in the 82nd minute to double Lehman's advantage before Joel Arevalo cemented the 3-0 final in the 86th minute.
McLeod made five of his game-high eight saves in the second half while Adrian Magana Santos (7-2-0) turned away one save to secure the Lehman win.
In the end, Lehman controlled shots (20-7), shots on goal (11-1) and corner kicks (8-1).
The Cardinals (1-7-0, 0-1-0 CUNYAC) return to the pitch Saturday (Sept. 28) for a 2 p.m. matchup against the College of Staten Island Dolphins (2-3-1) from Randall's Island Park (Field 81) in Manhattan.
