@yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball takes down Medgar Evers at Old Westbury tri-match

York College returns to CUNYAC play Tuesday (Sept. 24) at Hunter College


OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball competed Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Old Westbury tri-match, where they topped the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-9), 3-1 (25-18. 25-11, 23-25, 25-20) inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Cardinals then lost in three sets (25-21, 25-9, 25-17) to the host Panthers (3-2).

The Cardinals tallied eight kills in each of their four sets to finish the match hitting .031 as the Cougars attacked at a rate of -.052.  York dominated the Cougars in points (54-30), kills (32-17), assists (29-14) and aces (22-6) while Medgar Evers outplayed the Cardinals in blocks (7-9) and digs (64-56). 

Alessandra Villota led York with career highs of 15 points on eight kills and seven aces to go with nine digs.  Chrissy Hobson nailed down 11 kills on a career-high 46 swings during a 14-point performance. She also added a career-high 12 digs to register her first-career double-double.  Alexandra Taveras's 22 assists moved the Cardinals on offense. Taveras and Shamonie Miller both served four aces as part of York's season-high output of 22.

Sashamoni Burnett totaled eight kills and seven blocks to highlight Medgar Evers. 

Old Westbury 3, York 0
Hobson paced York with 15 points on 10 kills (.231%), three blocks (career-high) and two aces.  Taveras dished out 10 assists and added four kills. MIller had a team-best eight digs.

Kyraleigh Zinnel compiled a match-leading nine aces and 15 assists to spark Old Westbury to victory.

York opened the match attacking at a rate of .120 before cooling off to finish at .030 as Old Westbury hit .172.  The Cardinals edged the Panthers in digs (34-30) while Old Westbury owned the advantage in points (49-25), kills (31-18), assists (29-14) and aces (15-4).  Both teams drew even in blocks (3-3).  

The Cardinals (3-5, 1-1 CUNYAC) return to CUNYAC play Tuesday (Sept. 24) with a matchup on the road against the Hunter College Hawks (5-5, 3-0 CUNYAC) inside Hunter Sportsplex.
