www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer held the Lehman College Lightning (1-7-0, 1-0-0 CUNYAC) scoreless until the 60th minute and faced a 1-0 CUNYAC-opening loss Saturday afternoon from Knights Field on the campus of Queens College in Flushing, New York.
Both teams had plenty of scoring opportunities in the opening period as Lehman attempted 13 shots compared to York putting up seven.
Gisselle Flores-Barajas led York's offensive attack with six first-half shots, testing Lehman goalie Rebecca Gritz (1-7-0) with five attempts on target.
Lehman broke through at the 59:18 mark with Michaela Canapa finishing a feed outside the box from Melanie Huerta for the game-winning goal past Cardinal netminder
Chelsea Vasquez (0-5-0).
York held the advantage in corner kicks (5-3) while Lehman outplayed the Cardinals in shots (21-8) and shots on goal (7-6).
Vasquez and Gritz both turned away six shots.
The Cardinals (0-5-0, 0-1-0 CUNYAC) return to action Wednesday (Sept. 25) on the road against the College of Staten Island Dolphins with kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. from CSI Soccer Complex in Staten Island.
