Hobson’s 12 points pace @yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball’s attack against Lehman

York College travels Saturday (Sept. 21) to Old Westbury, New York for a non-conference tri-match with Medgar Evers College and SUNY Old Westbury


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball closed out a four-match homestand Thursday evening with their first CUNYAC loss of the season as the Lehman College Lightning (2-10, 1-2 CUNYAC) pulled a 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22) win away from the Cardinals inside York College Gymnasium.

Starting off in a 12-1 hole, York chipped away with a 9-5 run to make it a 17-10 game in the opening set.  Lehman then scored eight of the game's next 14 points to grab the first set win. The Cardinals trailed early in the second set and took control of the stanza with a 10-5 spurt to give them the lead for good, 14-13.  York produced a .208 hitting percentage in the second set and finished the match at -.044, compared to Lehman's -.008. The Cardinals ended the match with the advantage in blocks (4-3) and digs (68-55) while Lehman outplayed York in points (46-38), kills (29-26), aces (14-8) and assists (27-25). 

York was led by Chrissy Hobson, who racked up a match-high 12 points on eight kills, three blocks (career-high), one ace and eight digs (career-high).  Alexandra Taveras moved the offense with 14 assists to go with six kills, two aces and a solo block. Alessandra Villota went for career highs of 17 digs and six kills.  Kiara Gonzalez served a team-best three aces and scooped 15 digs. Dorianny Rojas added 15 digs to York's defensive attack.

Franchesca Acevedo nailed down eight kills and finished with 11.5 points to lead Lehman.  Heder Rodriguez tallied 14 assists, four aces and 10 digs while Yari Peguero registered four aces and 12 digs. 

The Cardinals (2-4, 1-1 CUNAYC) are back in action Saturday (Sept. 21) on the road for a non-conference tri-match starting with the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-7) at 12 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. tilt with the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers (1-2) from Clark Athletic Center in Old Westbury, New York.
