www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer traveled Wednesday evening to Yonkers to take on the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (2-2-0) at Fleming Field, where the Cardinals faced a 3-2 non-conference setback.
After falling behind in the 16th minute, the Cardinals answered with
Marvin Mondesir putting home his own rebound past Gryphon goalie Aaron Ashery (2-2-0) for the equalizer at the 24:49 mark.
Sarah Lawrence netted a 2-1 lead heading into intermission as Sinjin Mendenhall finished a run from Dominic Mauro to beat Cardinal goalie
Jasper McLeod (0-5-0) in the 37th minute.
The Gryphons opened the second-half scoring with Mendenhall setting up Josiah Corson at 63:07 for the game-winning goal to put Sarah Lawrence up, 3-1. York pulled within one goal 3:51 later when
Steve Zang closed out the scoring by heading home his first-career tally. The Cardinals put up two shots in the final 21 minutes, but were unable to capitalize on attempts from Zang and
Ibrahim Kone.
York held the advantage in corner kicks (4-3) but were outplayed in shots (16-9) and shots on goal (9-5). McLeod made six saves while Ashery stopped three shots to secure Sarah Lawrene's win.
The Cardinals (0-5-0) return home Saturday (Sept. 14) for a 6:30 p.m. non-conference showdown from Aviator Field in Brooklyn against the Clarks Summit University Defenders
