Defensive effort strong for @yorkcardinals Men’s Soccer in season opener at Yeshiva

York College continues its eight-game road schedule Wednesday (Sept. 4) with a non-conference showdown at Maritime College

TEANECK, NJ --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer opened the 2019 season Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 non-conference loss to the Yeshiva University Maccabees (2-0-0) from Votee Park in Teaneck, New Jersey.

Cardinal goalie Jasper McLeod (0-1-0) was strong in his debut, turning away 12 shots.  McLeod stopped eight of Yeshiva's 15 second-half shots.

With the game locked in a scoreless tie, Yeshiva converted the decisive goal at the 70:26 mark as Zachary Stauber connected with Alberto Benhamu to secure the 1-0 win.

The Cardinals created plenty of opportunities, finishing with 17 shots as Hans Merilan and Marvin Mondesir both took seven to pace York offensively, landing five and three shots on target, respectively.  McLeod's performance marked York's most saves since September 12, 2018, when Johnan Bermeo grabbed 15 against William Paterson University.

In the end, Yeshiva held the advantage in shots (26-17), shots on goal (15-10) and corner kicks (6-3).

Sagi Badash (2-0-0) made 10 saves to hold victory for Yeshiva.

The Cardinals (0-1-0) travel Wednesday (Sept. 4) to Throggs Neck, New York for a non-conference matchup with the Maritime College Privateers (2-0-0) at 7:30 p.m. from Reinhart Field.
