@yorkcardinals Softball travels for non-conference play with Rosemont

The Cardinals return home Thursday (Apr. 25) to continue Monday’s rain-shortened CUNYAC doubleheader with Brooklyn College


ROSEMONT, PA --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball traveled Wednesday to Rosemont, Pennsylvania, where they lost 14-0 and 20-0 non-conference decisions to the Rosemont College Ravens (13-23) from Ravens Athletic Complex.  

Game 1 (5 Inn.): Rosemont 14, York 0
Rosemont took the lead early with a three-run first inning on Cardinal stater Rosenery Chicaiza (L, 0-9: 4 IP, 9 H, 14 R, 6 ER, 7 BB, K) and never looked back.  The Ravens opened the scoring ice with Christina Broccolino singling home Samantha DeFrancisco for the game-winning run.

Rosemont's Taylor Carter (W, 3-2: 5 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 K) cruised through 4.1 innings until Nicolasa Restituyo stroked a one-out single and was thrown out trying to advance to second.  Ashley Alcantara then drilled a base hit followed by Shamonie Miller reaching on a walk before Valentina Pozo struck out to end York's rally.

Game 2 (5 Inn.): Rosemont 20, York 0
The Ravens put the game out of reach with a 10-run opening frame on Chicaiza (L, 0-10: 0.1 IP, 6 H, 10 R, 3 ER, BB) as Analisa Yoder's two-run triple scored DeFrancisco for the game-winning run.  Dorianny Rojas (3.2 IP, 9 H, 10 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 4 K) took over in relief to record two outs to get York out of the first inning.

Carter (W, 4-2: 5 IP, 1 H, 2 K) retired York's first 11 batters until Mary Cuevas' two-out single broke the Cardinals into the hit column in the fourth inning.  The Cardinals improved their plate disciple by finishing the with a season-low two strikeouts, York's lowest total since March 18, 2018 (2 vs. Yeshiva University).

The Cardinals (0-16, 0-8 CUNYAC) return home Thursday (Mar. 25) to continue Monday's rain-shortened CUNYAC doubleheader against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (2-20, 0-10 CUNYAC) starting at 3 p.m. from Padavan-Preller Field in Bellerose, New York.  The opening game will pick up in the top of the fifth inning with Brooklyn leading 13-0.
