Men's Volleyball goes 0-2 at Baruch Tri-Match

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's volleyball team lost two CUNYAC matches at the tri-match held at Baruch College on Saturday, falling to Medgar Evers College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18), and Baruch College, 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-10).

Medgar Evers Recap
Medgar Evers played sloppy at the start of the set, and the Cardinals took advantage, taking a 3-0 lead.  The Cougars slowly chipped away and went on a 14-4 run to take a seven-point lead which they held to take the first set.

In the second set, the Cougars took an early lead—this time going up 10-5.  York was unable to dig themselves as Medgar Evers extended their lead to a 21-10 advantage and taking a 2-0 lead.

The beginning of the third set was a back and forth, as Medgar would take large leads only to see York make repeated runs. The Cougars took a 10-4 lead before the Cardinals stormed back to make the score 14-12. However, Medgar Evers went on  11-6 run for the straight-set victory.

Akil Vaughn led York with eight kills and 10 points while Kevin Campbell had eight kills, four digs, and three assists. Juan Rodriguez finished with a match-high 15 assists.

Baruch Recap
Baruch took an early 8-1 lead in the first set and never relinquished it.  York closed to 8-2 after a Baruch service error, but Baruch would continue to extend its lead. The Bearcats hit .588 in the set, compared to -.053 for York.

In set #2, Baruch once again took the early lead, but the Cardinals closed to 10-7 after a Mambe Koureissi kill with an assist from Juan Rodriguez. However, Baruch would go on a 10-6 run to go up 20-13. They would not look back from there.

The third set was more of the same, as Baruch jumped out to an early lead and continued to expand its lead until closing out the match at 25-10.

York was led by Vaugh again, who had seven kills and two digs.  Campbell chipped in six kills and two blocks. Rodriguez added 12 assists.

York is now 2-15, 0-5 CUNYAC. Baruch is 10-8, 5-0 CUNYAC and Medgar Evers is 11-1, 4-1 CUNYAC.  York will be home against Yeshiva University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
