York College men's volleyball closed out their six-game homestand Tuesday evening with a three-set loss (25-17, 25-19, 25-11) to the Wilkes University Colonels (7-7) in non-conference action inside York College Gymnasium.
The Cardinals (1-10) jumped out to a 16-14 lead in the second stanza while enjoying their best hitting set of the night with seven kills. York finished the match with 16 kills on 70 swings to hit -.114. Wilkes had 34 kills on 77 attempts to fire away at a .234 clip. The Cardinals held the advantage in blocks (5-0) while Wilkes outplayed York in aces (9-2), assists (32-15) and digs (29-25).
Akil Vaughn scored a match-leading 13.5 points as he led all hitters with 12 kills on 30 swings to hit .133 in leading York.
Juan Rodriguez's 10 assists moved the Cardinal offense while Vaughn and
Philton Paul accounted for both York aces.
Kevin Campbell registered three solo blocks and Paul scooped seven digs.
Ethan Speicher's eight kills and three aces paced Wilkes to victory. Daniel Sales directed the offense with a match-high 32 assists while Cole Hefner added three aces.
The Cardinals return to action Wednesday (Feb. 27) in Morristown, New Jersey with a non-conference showdown against the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles (2-7) at 7 p.m. inside Saint Joseph Gymnasium.
