www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball continued their five-game road trip Tuesday evening with a 77-66 road loss to the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (1-4, 1-0 CUNYAC) in their CUNYAC opener from West Quad Gymnasium in Brooklyn.
In a first half that saw both teams combine for seven lead changes, the Cardinals grabbed an early advantage 18 seconds in with a
Jaye Bookhart trey. Moments later,
Donald Hartley, Jr. drained back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite an 11-3 Cardinal run to put York up by four (17-13) with 12:46 showing on the first-half clock. Brooklyn took the lead for good at the 7:49 mark with a triple by Michael Tesoriero to open a 16-8 spurt to lead 36-29 at halftime.
York started the second with seven-straight points as
Devine Chisholm converted a three-point play with 17:50 left to knot the game at 36-all. Brooklyn answered with a 16-3 run to take control of the game to build a 52-39 advantage with 13:05 remaining. York played from behind for the final 14:20 as Brooklyn led by as many as 17.
Mambe Koureissi registered 13 points (5-of-9) and 13 rebounds to post his second-straight double-double effort for York. Bookhart and Hartley, Jr. both scored 12 and Chisholm followed with 10.
Akil Vaughn added nine points and 10 rebounds.
Anthony McLeon's game-high 18 points led three other double-digit scorers for Brooklyn.
York finished the game shooting 40.7 percent from the field (22-of-54), 35.7 percent from 3-point range (5-of-14) and 65.4 percent from the free-throw line (17-of-26) as Brooklyn landed 32.5 percent from the floor (25-of-77), 30 percent from long distance (12-of-40) and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (15-of-18). Brooklyn held a +6 rebounding edge (50-44) and scored 21 second-chance points off 22 offensive boards. York netted 15 points off 12 Bulldog miscues and outplayed Brooklyn in the paint with a 28-26 scoring advantage. The Bulldogs finished with the edge in assists (19-12), steals (5-4) and blocks (7-2).
The Cardinals (2-4, 0-1 CUNYAC) close out their road trip Friday (Dec. 6) at 7:30 p.m. against the Lehman College Lightning (1-5, 0-1 CUNYAC) in a CUNYAC showdown from APEX Gymnasium in Bronx.
