www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball took control of the game early on Sunday evening to the register a 73-63 non-conference road win over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (3-9) from Baruch College's ARC Arena in Manhattan.
Both teams traded baskets to open the contest as Keyla Cebrera stuck a jumper to ignite six-unanswered points to stake the Cardinals an 8-2 lead 3:20 in. Yeshiva got as close as two points (8-6) with 5:48 left before
Mac-Dege Dessources dropped in four of her eight first-quarter tallies to make it a 19-13 game heading into the second stanza. York's lead reached 11 at the 9:38 mark as the Cardinals went up by as many as 15 points (28-13) during a second period that saw the Maccabees respond with a 11-3 spurt over the final 7:52 to cut their deficit to seven (31-24) at intermission.
The Cardinals played with a double-digit lead for the final 13:40 as Dessources' layup with 3:40 to go in the third helped her collect her second-straight double-double (17th-career) for York's 42-31 advantage. York extended its margin to a game-high 17 points (65-48) with 5:09 showing on the fourth-quarter clock. Yeshiva strung together a 7-1 run over the final 53 tics to settle the 73-63 decision.
Dessources poured in a career-high 21 points 10-of-12 FG) to go with 17 rebounds to led York to victory.
Destiny Drummond tallied career- highs of 21 points, four assists and three steals in addition to her five rebounds tying a personal-best. Cabrera added eight points and four steals.
Leading Yeshiva was Jessie Orgel, who notched 18 points and four steals while Tehilla Teigman scored 10.
In the end, York shot 47.8 percent from the field (43-of-67), 30 percent from 3-point range (3-of-10) and 21.4 percent from the free-throw line (6-of-28) as Yeshiva converted 26.7 percent from the floor (20-of-75), 32 percent from deep (8-of-25) and 68.2 percent from the charity stripe (15-of-22). York grabbed a season-high 71 rebounds and 28 offensive boards to score 20 second-chance points. The Cardinals also outplayed Yeshiva in assists (16-10), blocks (2-1), fastbreak points (18-9), points in the paint (44-18) and 24 points off 24 Maccabee miscues.
The Cardinals (3-5) open up a five-game homestand starting with the Manhattanville College Valiants (5-1) on December 30 at 1 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium.
