www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball produced a pair of 20-point scorers Friday evening, but were unable to pull out the overtime decision as the SUNY Potsdam Bears (6-2) advanced to the York Invitational championship game with an 88-84 triumph inside York College Gymnasium. The Cardinals (3-6) will look to bounce back Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game against the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins (6-2). The Bears and Purchase College (4-4) will follow in the championship game at 3 p.m..
Potsdam raced out to a quick 4-0 lead before York answered with an 8-2 run to grab its first advantage of the game 5:31 in. Moments later, Jean Luc-Etienne's trey ignited a 16-3 scoring spree that gave the Cardinals a game-high nine-point lead (28-19) with 3:22 left. The Bears then used a 12-3 spurt over the final 3:15 to send a 31-all contest into the break.
The second half featured 12 lead changes, and with Potsdam holding a 59-55 advantage, York used a 16-7 run to build a five-point cushion with 3:05 showing on the clock. The Cardinals were unable to close out the final minutes as Potsdam scored five-unanswered points to force overtime.
Ahamadou Sillah broke a 71-all tie with a layup to give Potsdam the lead for good with 4:56 remaining in the extra frame. York tied the game three times in overtime before Potsdam put together a 6-1 run to take a five-point lead in the final minute to secure the win.
Devine Chisholm sparked York with 25 points (7-of-15 FG, 11-of-14 FT), seven assists and six rebounds.
Jaye Bookhart netted 20 points (7-of-13 FG) as
Mambe Koureissi tallied 10 points, 16 rebounds (career-high) and two blocks to post his fourth-career double-double.
Donald Hartley, Jr. nabbed three steals and
Olawele Kila had two.
Danny Delsol-Lowry led all scorers with a game-high 27 points (5-of-11 FG, 14-of-17 FT) to pace the Bears to victory. Tyrese Baptiste went for 13 points (5-of-5 FT), 17 rebounds and four blocks while Colby Simpson, Isaiah Joseph and Nana Annorh each scored 11.
York finished the game shooting 40.9 percent from the field (27-of-66), 27.8 percent from 3-point territory (5-of-18) and 65.8 percent from the free-throw line (25-of-38) as Potsdam hit on 30.7 percent from the floor (23-of-75), 23.7 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-38) and 63.5 percent from the charity stripe (33-of-52). Both teams drew even in blocks (6-6) while York outplayed Potsdam in assists (12-11) and points in the paint (32-28).
