@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer extends scoring streak at John Jay

York College returns home Monday (Oct. 14) for a non-conference tilt with College of Saint Elizabeth


NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer traveled Wednesday afternoon for a CUNYAC matchup at Randall's Island Park Field 70, where they faced an 8-1 setback on the road to the John Jay College Bloodhounds (7-6-0, 3-0-0 CUNYAC).

Kristalina Banuelos opened the scoring 1:50 in by finishing a feed from Medina Mulic for John Jay's early lead.  The Bloodhounds doubled their advantage in the 25th minute with the game-winning goal by Katie Healy past Cardinal goalie Chelsea Vasquez (0-9-0) to make it a 2-0 contest.

Trailing 3-0 at halftime,York allowed two more goals before Taylor Bellmon put the Cardinals on the board in the 57th minute.  Bellmon's tally was her first of the season as York extended its scoring streak to a season-best two games.

John Jay finished the match with the edge in shots (34-2), shots in goal (28-2) and corner kicks (10-3).  Bellmon and Mary Meshanski accounted for both Cardinal attempts on Bloodhound goalie Erika Estro (3-1-0).

Vasquez faced 34 shots and made a career-high 20 saves while Estro had one.  The 20 stops were the most by a Cardinal since Sarah Hilaire registered 23 against New Jersey City University on October 18, 2016.

The Cardinals (0-9-0, 0-3-0 CUNYAC) return home Monday (Oct. 14) afternoon for a 12:30 p.m. non-conference kickoff from Aviator Field in Brooklyn against the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles (0-10).
