@yorkcardinals Women’s Soccer strikes first against Brooklyn

York College returns to the pitch Wednesday (Oct. 9) at John Jay College

FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer scored first for the third time this season before surrendering three unanswered goals to drop a 3-1 CUNYAC home loss Saturday afternoon to the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (4-6-1, 2-2-0 CUNYAC) from Knights Field on the campus of Queens College in Flushing, New York.

Denise Tasipanta finished a feed from Geraldine Guese 12:13 in to break the scoring ice for York's early lead.  Tasipanta lofted a long ball past a leaping Bulldog goalie Carmen Proffitt (4-6-1) for her first-career goal.

Brooklyn answered with the equalizer in the 27th minute from Rachel Gomez followed by the game-winning goal in the 36th minute from Anna Curran's free kick past the outstretched arms of Cardinal netminder Chelsea Vasquez (0-8-0).

The Bulldogs settled the 3-1 final in the 52nd minute with Gomez's second goal of the game.

In the end, Brooklyn finished with the advantage in shots (25-3), shots on goal (16-3) and corner kicks (4-2).

Vasquez stopped 13 shots as Proffitt made two saves.

The Cardinals (0-8-0, 0-2-0 CUNYAC) continue CUNYAC play on the road Wednesday (Oct. 9) afternoon with a 4 p.m. matchup against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (5-5-0, 1-0-0 CUNYAC) from Randall's Island Field 70 in Manhattan.
