www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball closed out their 2019 CUNYAC schedule Tuesday evening with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-14) setback on the road to the John Jay College Bloodhounds (6-16, 3-4 CUNYAC) inside The Doghouse.
The Cardinals opened the first set with a brief lead during a stanza that saw York hit at .043. York and John Jay went back and forth in the second set with the Cardinals leading 10-9 before the Bloodhounds closed out with a 14-8 run to take control of the match. The Cardinals outplayed John Jay in blocks (5-1) and digs (43-38), while the Bloodhounds finished with the advantage in points (54-21), hitting (.202 to -.042), kills (38-14), aces (15-2) and assists (38-9).
Chrissy Hobson paced York with 4.5 points on three kills, one ace and a block assist.
Alessandra Villota and
Shamonie Miller both followed with four points as
Nadaysia Nivar had 3.5.
Kiara Gonzalez moved the offense with seven assists. Nivar (3.5 blocks) and Villota (15 digs) spearheaded the defense.
John Jay was led by Mirialis Almanzar, who produced 15 kills and contributed 17 points to the win. Kimberly Rodriguez compiled 35 assists while Niovis Monsanto served five aces.
The Cardinals (5-14, 1-6 CUNYAC) look to close out the 2019 campaign on the right note Saturday (Nov. 2) with a non-conference tri-match hosted by the Centenary University Cyclones in Hackettstown, New Jersey. York opens with the host Cyclones (0-15) followed by the Norte Dame of Maryland University Gators (21-3) at 2 p.m. inside John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
