JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's tennis is set to return to CUNYAC Championship play Sunday afternoon for the first time since 2014.  The sixth-seeded Cardinals will take on the No. 3 John Jay College Bloodhounds at 12 p.m. from USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing.

The Cardinals are led by 2018 CUNYAC All-Star Geraldine Guese with a 3-4 record on the season in the No. 1 singles spot that include conference wins against Hunter College and Lehman College, who are seeded No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.

York has already doubled the amount of individual matches won (6) from a season ago, and the return of head coach Gemma Alexander-Mozeak to the program for her second stint after last coaching the Cardinals in 2015 is a big reason for the progression of the team.

On a team that features six returnees from a season ago and one newcomer, the bond is strong. In fact, it can be traced back to preseason, when the team grew together  by doing a cleanup of York Courts.  The time spent building bonds quickly paid dividends as York won three games in the season opener on September 5 against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn). The three match wins were the Cardinals' highest total since 2014, when York defeated College of New Rochelle with a 6-3 final.

With a final tune-up on Saturday (Oct. 19) at Albertus Magnus College (Oct. 19), the Cardinals are excited to play at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for the third time this year in their return to the postseason.

The winner of Sunday's showdown will advance to the semifinal round Thursday (Oct. 22) against Baruch College.
