@yorkcardinals Women’s Volleyball returns to CUNYAC play at Brooklyn tri-match

York College continues its CUNYAC schedule Thursday (Oct. 17) at home against Baruch College


JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball returned to the court Saturday afternoon for the first time in 16 days to take on the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (12-7, 4-1 CUNYAC) and CCNY Beavers (5-6, 2-3 CUNAYC) in a CUNYAC tri-match at West Quad Center in Brooklyn.  The Cardinals fell by the count of 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-12) in the opener against CCNY before a set-straight setback to Brooklyn (25-12, 25-11, 25-3).  

CCNY 3, York 0
In a set that saw the Cardinals produce a .033 hitting percentage, York jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the opening set on CCNY.  After a brief CCNY spurt, York answered with a kill by Alessandra Villota to pull within one (6-5) before the Beavers took control with a 19-9 run to close out the stanza.  York finished the match attacking -.110 as CCNY outplayed the Cardinals in hitting (.143 to -.110), points (46-13), kills (26-7), aces (20-3), blocks (3-0), assists (25-7) and digs (50-34). 

York's offense was led by Chrissy Hobson, who produced 5.5 points and nailed down three kills, and Dorianny Rojas' 11 digs on defense.

Kayla Oge tallied a match-high 14 points on eight aces and six kills as Dzeneta Harambasic directed the Beavers with 18 assists.     

Brooklyn 3, York 0
Both teams traded leads before Brooklyn went on a 17-5 scoring spree to take the opening set.  Both teams drew even in blocks (3-3) while the Bulldogs finished the match with the advantage in hitting (.325 to -.113), points (55-12), kills (37-9), aces (15-0), assists (35-9) and digs (50-30).  

Hobson once again led the Cardinal offense with seven points on five kills and two blocks.  Kiara Gonzalez tallied nine digs and seven assists as Ariana Villavicencio turned in a career-high eight digs.

Ezri Shor's 30 assists directed Brooklyn's offensive attack while Ashley Fung contributed a match-high 14 points to the Bulldog win. 

The Cardinals (5-8, 1-4 CUNYAC) return home Thursday (Oct. 17) for a 7 p.m. CUNYAC showdown with the Baruch College Bearcats (12-4, 4-0 CUNYAC) inside York College Gymnasium.
