JAMAICA, N.Y.—York and College of Staten Island were in a close game for most of the first quarter, but CSI pulled away in the second quarter and went on to win 73-58 on Tuesday night.
York trailed by just five points early in the second quarter, but a 23-9 run pushed the Dolphins lead up to 16 points. CSI continued to expand on the lead and held for the victory as York made several runs but unable to come back.
York out-rebounded CSI, 53-34, and scored 19 second-chance points.
Mac-Dege Dessources was a force on the glass for the Lady Cardinals grabbing 18 rebounds, scoring 12 points while also blocking four shots.
Ellma Hodzic scored 14 points to pace York on offense.
CSI got a team-high 15 points from Megan McEwan while adding seven boards and seven assists. Jacquelyn Calli chipped in 14 points, and Rosa Perrone had 13 points.
York made a run in the third quarter, but CSI still outscored York 21-17. The Cardinals continued to Staten Island held a 14-11 edge in the fourth quarter.
The loss drops York's record to 4-17, 3-9 CUNYAC. Staten Island improves to 17-4, 11-1 CUNYAC. The Cardinals will visit Baruch College on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
